USB Hard Disk User's Manual

This user's manual is written to assist users to prepare the product when it is first received and to install the product to the host computer. The manufacturer reserves the right to make improvements to the product and to revise the document associated with it at anytime without notice.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with limits for a Class B digital device, Pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules.
These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy, and if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions may caused harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will no occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause interference to radio or television equipment reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures.
Only equipment certified to comply with Class B should be attached to this equipment to continuing compliant with FCC emission limit, and must have shielded interface cables. Installing Hardware:
a. Remove screws and open up the USB Hard Disk enclosure.
b. Mount your 2.5" HDD to the IDE-44 pin socket on the circuit board firmly.

c. Tighten each of 4 screws on the back of circuit board to secure the 2.5" HDD.
d. Restore the circuit board and the enclosure in place.
e. Make sure the external power is switched to "OFF".

f. Plug the USB cable into USB Hard Disk and proceed to installing software.

Note: If your computer USB port or hub doesn't supply enough power to spin up your hard disk in the USB Hard Disk, USB Hard Disk won't be able to be recognized by your computer. In this case, you have to use keyboard power cable or AC/DC adapter to power up USB Hard Disk. AC/DC adapter is an optional part which you have to buy from your vendor. The setup is illustrated below:

Installing Software:
For Windows 98:

The drivers are now loaded. If the hard drive in USB Hard Disk is unformatted, you must now partition and format it. This is done through the use of the DOS utility FDISK. See your Windows documentation if you are unfamiliar with FDISK. Note that you must run FDISK before you try to format the hard drive and that you must run FDISK in a DOS Window while Windows is running.

For Windows 2000:
a. Boot up computer to Windows 2000.
b. Connect the
USB Hard Disk to computer.
c. The system will detect the USB Hard Disk. Click
on "Next" to continue.
d. Choose "Search for a suitable driver for my device (Recommended)" and click on "Next" to continue.
e. Choose "Specify a location".
f.
Slide the enclosed installation CD in the CD-ROM drive. Find "WIN2000"
folder in the CD-ROM drive, and Click on "OK" to continue.
g. The USB Hard Disk will be recognized as a

Important
notice for Windows 2000 users!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Windows 2000 dose not have Windows
utility FDISK, therefore the Hard Disk must be partitioned and formatted in Windows 98. This is done through the use of the Windows
utility FDISK. See your Windows documentation
if you are unfamiliar with FDISK. Note that
you must run FDISK before you try formatting the hard drive and that you must run FDISK in
the DOS Window while Windows is running.

For Mac OS:
a. Place the software CD that comes with USB Hard Disk in the CD-ROM drive.
b. Open the "Mac" folder in the software CD to find "Reader" installer.
c. Double click on the "Reader" installer to install the drivers.
d. Click "Yes" to continue.

e. Click "Restart" to finish installation.

f. Plug the USB cable in the USB port on your Mac. USB Hard Disk will be recognized as an "Untitled" drive icon appearing on the screen.

(1) Highlight the icon for USB Hard Disk.
(2) From the Finder menu located at the top of the screen, select Special, Erase Disk.
You can select either DOS or Macintosh formatting. If you intend to use the device on both a PC and a Mac, select DOS formatting.
